Pet Air Valet

What if my dog needs to relieve themselves?

Most dogs hold 5–7 hours. We operate shorter and longer journeys and provide absorbent pads as a discreet precaution, especially for longer flights.

Most dogs can comfortably hold for around 5–7 hours. Each dog is different, and age, routine, hydration, and nerves can all affect timing.

Pet Air Valet operates both shorter and longer in-cabin journeys. Some longer journeys also include a planned mid-journey comfort stop. We plan for comfort first and keep practical precautions available on board.

The simple answer

  • Most dogs do not need to relieve themselves during the journey.
  • We provide absorbent pads as a discreet precaution, especially for longer journeys, younger dogs, and dogs that are still building travel confidence.
  • If your dog does need a break, we guide you through a calm, hygienic process.

What we do

  • Provide absorbent pads as a precaution on board.
  • Help you plan a simple flight day routine that supports comfort.
  • Offer guidance if your dog has specific needs (for example, very young, senior, or medical considerations).
  • Confirm whether your journey includes a planned mid-journey comfort stop, if this option applies.

What you can do before departure

A calm routine reduces the chance of any issues on board.

  • Offer a proper walk and a bathroom break close to departure time.
  • Keep meals light before departure, unless your vet advises otherwise.
  • Offer water normally, then reduce large amounts right before boarding.
  • Bring familiar items (a mat or blanket) so your dog settles quickly.
  • Pack a small comfort kit (see below) so you feel prepared.

If your dog is very young, elderly, or has a medical condition that affects bladder or bowel control, please let us know early. This information helps us plan the cabin set-up.

Hygiene and clean-up

We recommend travelling with a small comfort kit in your hand luggage:

  • A few spare absorbent pads (in case your dog needs more than one)
  • Waste bags
  • Unscented wipes
  • A spare towel or light blanket
  • A sealable bag for used items

If an accident happens, this situation is not a problem. The priority is to keep your dog calm and the cabin comfortable. Follow crew guidance and we will support the process.

Important note

Medication decisions are always between you and your vet. If you are considering any medication or supplements for travel, speak with your vet well in advance and follow their guidance.

If you are unsure what your dog will need, contact Assistance and tell us your dog's age, size, and typical bathroom schedule. This information helps us plan the most comfortable in-cabin experience.
